So what is FOCUS?
FOCUS is not just for Christians, but is open to everyone who wants to hear God’s word taught. The FOCUS leadership team is made up of both Australian and international students, most of whom are part of Christian Union. We have had students come from a variety of backgrounds – Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, China, Taiwan… the list goes on, and we are always searching for new countries to add to it!
Where is it?
We meet each week at Trinity Chapel , on the edge of the Macquarie campus near the Macquarie Shopping centre. A map is available here.
What happens there?
FOCUS starts at 4pm every Friday afternoon and runs until 6pm. We play a game to get to know one another a bit better, sing together, read a passage from the Bible and study it in small groups and hear a talk preached from the Bible. The formal part of the evening is usually finished by 5.30 or so, after which we share a meal together, cooked by members of Christian Union, FOCUS or Trinity Chapel.
Why should I come?
Coming to FOCUS is a fantastic way to make new friends, taste new foods, learn new songs, laugh at crazy games and, most importantly, learn about how our Lord Jesus Christ has given His life for us. It is also a great place to practise English – and a great excuse for a short study break to ensure that your mind is ready for the study you shall be doing on the weekend!
What else happens?
FOCUS meets up at other times as well, for social events and weekend trips. Twice a year we try and take the members of FOCUS away to a holiday house in a place they may not have been to, like the Blue Mountains or Lake Macquarie, where we do some sightseeing, have a lot of fun and share Bible talks and studies together. They are wonderful weekends – highly recommended! We also have social events planned, such as Yum Cha visits, a trip to the Zoo – all kinds of exciting events and experiences that are made all the more fun by good friends being there with you. So come along to FOCUS and find out when and where – the more the merrier.
What will it cost me?
FOCUS is not a profit based organisation – it will not cost you anything to attend a FOCUS meeting. We charge $3 for a home cooked dinner and if you go on camps and to social events there are extra costs, but we try and keep all costs as low as we can so that there is no barrier for anyone to come to FOCUS at any time.
We are looking forward to seeing you at FOCUS whenever you can come!
