South Pacific Regional Training Event

Conference: 29 November - 3 December 2008

Mission: 3 - 7 December 2008

ANU, Canberra and in partnership with mission churches

Cross + Culture: it is the cross of Christ that is the centre of God’s plan. And it is the cross that both transforms and crosses our cultures.

What is SPRTE 08?

As a unique opportunity for 2008, the AFES National Training Event goes international. AFES has the privilege of hosting the South Pacific Regional Training Event for Fiji, Vanuatu, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Australia.

We will learn from God's word together in main meetings, study the word closely in smaller Strand groups, and be challenged to sharpen our ministry skills in workshops. SPRTE is capped off by a short mission with partner churches, where we will put things we've learned into practice.

But what about...

Where I’ll be staying? CU will all be staying in the same area as a group so we will be travelling as a group, eating together, in strand groups together with people from other uni's and be able to hang out whenever – all while still meeting new Christian friends from all over the South Pacific!

The ‘mission’ component? What will I be doing there? During SPRTE, we will be learning all sorts of practical ministry skills and will be getting the perfect opportunity to try them out on mission. The second week of SPRTE is therefore dedicated to assisting a church in Sydney to run their pre-Christmas mission and their outreach to the people in the community. CU will divide into two teams and visit a couple of churches, staying with members of the church.

Getting to Canberra? It’s a bit far! Don’t stress! Transport will be organised for you so you won’t have to necessarily bring your own car. It’s easy as winking!

Taking the whole nine days off?? It’s so expensive and I won’t even be able to work! Just take a step back and think on this – we as uni students have the most free time that we will ever have and should, therefore, make the most of the opportunities available to us. Nine days serving and growing in God is one of the most rewarding things that we could possibly do, and to be perfectly honest, you can let your boss know now that you will be away so that there are no issues! As for cost, CU can help subsidise if you are strapped for cash, but also consider that if you started saving now, you would need to put aside a mere $30 dollars a week for 11 weeks in order to cover all of your costs of registration!

Join students from all over the South Pacific to be enriched as we study the cross of Christ!
